International Translation Day 2025: Redefining 'Trustworthy Translation' in the AI Era

Every September 30, International Translation Day gives the global language industry a shared voice. In 2025, events organized by the International Federation of Translators (FIT) and national associations extended the central question of the past two years: now that generative AI is embedded in translation workflows, where does the professional translator's value anchor?
The answer recurring across this year's events is trust. Machine translation fluency is no longer the bottleneck, but fluency is not trustworthiness: the legal force of contractual wording, dosage statements in medical literature, and the cultural fit of marketing copy still require a professional to sign off. The translator's role is shifting from language converter to manager of cross-lingual risk.
Industry data supports this view: despite rising AI tool adoption, the global language services market continues to grow, with regulation-driven demand—the EU AI Act, national data laws, medical device regulation—providing the most stable increment. Translation is not being replaced by AI; it is being re-layered by it.
As a language service provider, we have spent the year investing in AI tooling training for linguists and in our quality system. We believe the future belongs to teams with the most mature human-machine collaboration—never billing clients for avoidable manual inefficiency, and never letting unreviewed machine output leave the building.
