In the second half of 2023, mainstream computer-aided translation (CAT) tools completed their LLM integrations one after another: Trados rolled out AI-assist features, and platforms like memoQ and Phrase launched LLM-based translation suggestions and QA. The translator's daily workbench has quietly completed an intelligent retrofit.

Unlike using a chat-style AI directly, AI inside a CAT tool solves the "workflow" problem: AI suggestions appear alongside translation memory and term base matches, and the linguist accepts or edits with one click in a familiar editor; terminology constraints are automatically injected into model calls, preventing "AI freelancing"; and every AI-assisted step is logged in the project management system, meeting enterprise clients' audit requirements.

For translators, this "embedded AI" is far more practical than a separate chat window: no copy-pasting between windows, no terminology drift, and the AI's suggestion is just one option in the match list — whether to adopt it remains the translator's call.
