Autumn Conference Season: AI Implementation Is the Only Main Line

In autumn 2023, the language industry's conference season unfolded densely, with flagship events like SlatorCon taking place. Unlike the "shock and outlook" tone of spring conferences, autumn agendas were strikingly pragmatic: the industry has moved from a "shock phase" into a "build phase".

Discussion concentrated on four constructive topics. Enterprise deployment: how to wire LLMs into translation management systems to build auditable, controllable enterprise AI translation workflows. Data security: the compliance boundaries of sending client content to model APIs — private deployment and data isolation became hard requirements for enterprise clients. Pricing models: per-word billing is unsustainable in the AI era, and experiments with subscription, usage-based and value-based pricing emerged in clusters. Talent transition: training systems and career paths for linguists moving toward "AI review specialist" and "language quality engineer".

An interesting consensus is forming: LLMs will not shrink total demand for language services — they will expand it. As the marginal cost of translation falls, content that was previously "too expensive to translate" — internal knowledge bases, support logs, long-tail market content — enters the translation budget. The pie is growing; only the way it's sliced has changed.

From shock to build in under a year: the language industry's adaptation speed has exceeded many observers' expectations.
