Research Confirms: The Language Services Market Is Back on a Growth Track

Illustrated language services market returning to growth

In the second half of 2021, surveys published by CSA Research and other industry analysts showed that after 2020's violent swings, the global language services market has largely bottomed out: most LSPs returned to revenue growth, and some highly digitalized providers even set new records.

The recovery runs on two engines. First, enterprise digital transformation: the pandemic forced every industry online faster, amplifying multilingual demand for websites, apps, e-commerce and online services. Second, deepening content globalization: the worldwide expansion of streaming, gaming and online education provides sustained high increments for localization services.

The surveys also reveal divergence: providers with heavy technology investment and digitalized processes recovered markedly faster, while businesses over-dependent on a single offline scenario (such as exhibition interpreting) recovered more slowly. MT post-editing, remote interpreting platforms and cloud project management — the pandemic year's "emergency trio" — have settled in as industry infrastructure.

For practitioners on the fence, the 2021 data sends a clear signal: language services are not being eliminated by technology but reshaped by it — and the earlier a participant completes digital transformation, the more of the reshaping dividend they capture.
