Apple Unveils Apple Intelligence: Translation Sinks Deeper into the OS

On June 10, 2024, Apple announced Apple Intelligence at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) — a personal intelligence system deeply integrated into iOS, iPadOS and macOS. Its language-related features include system-wide writing tools (rewrite, proofread, summarize) and steadily enhanced translation. Apple also emphasized its "on-device processing + Private Cloud Compute" privacy architecture.

For the language industry, Apple's entry matters more as a weathervane than for any single feature: when translation and writing assistance become native OS capabilities, "cross-language communication" formally becomes infrastructure of digital life. From Samsung's call translation to Apple's system-wide writing tools, consumer electronics giants are acting in concert — and user education for language AI is being done for free by the biggest platform companies.

The spread of consumer features affects professional language services along a familiar logic: simple needs go self-serve, complex needs professionalize.
