The EU AI Omnibus Is Now in Force: Three Checklists Translation Buyers Should Update

On July 27, 2026, EU Regulation (EU) 2026/1744—the AI Omnibus—entered into force, putting a definitive full stop on the AI Act's implementation timeline: standalone high-risk AI obligations move to December 2, 2027, embedded high-risk AI obligations to August 2, 2028, while Article 50 transparency obligations are confirmed to apply as scheduled from August 2, 2026, with only a short grace period (to December 2, 2026) for machine-readable marking by generative AI systems already on the market.
For enterprises using AI translation and multilingual content generation, the regulation's landing means three checklists need immediate updating. First, the tool inventory: catalog every AI-involved content production tool—translation engines, writing assistants, dubbing tools—and mark where Article 50 duties fall for each: which sit with the provider, which with you as deployer. Second, the labeling process: for AI-generated or manipulated content (text, audio, image, video) published to EU users, how it is marked in machine-readable form and disclosed in the interface. Third, the human oversight record: the AI literacy duty requires demonstrating staff competence with AI, and documented human review and supervision is the most direct compliance evidence.
To restate the industry boundary: standalone machine translation tools are not high-risk, and translation buyers need not anxiety over proving how the AI was trained; the real actions required concern transparency and oversight records. Fear-based marketing invoking the AI Act keeps a visible distance from the regulatory text itself.
Our translation workflows natively satisfy documented human oversight: post-editing records, review traces, and quality reports are fully retrievable. For enterprises that must demonstrate diligent supervision to regulators or customers, this system plugs directly into their compliance evidence chain.
